11 Days Northern Lights Tour With Time in Zurich

ITINERARY
 

Day 1 - OR Tambo to Kloten Airport, Zurich.  (20/01/2018)  

Travel from OR Tambo International Airport to Kloten Airport, Zurich. 

Day 2:  Zurich and Oslo (21/01/2018)

Since we are scheduled for 10-hour Layover, why not explore the beautiful Zurich? See the city's top attractions, including Bahnhofstrasse, the Opera House, National Museum, and the charming old town.  Take a cruise on Lake Zurich and visit the famous Lindt & Sprungli chocolate shop, before returning to the airport for your flight to Oslo, Norway.  

Upon arrival at Oslo, you will be transferred to your hotel.  After check-in, you are free to explore Oslo, or maybe call it a day.

Day 3: Oslo (22/01/2018)

You have the day at leisure to discover Oslo on your own.  

Day 4: Tromso (23/01/2018)

Today you leave for Tromso - affectionately called "The Paris of the North."  After arrival at the airport you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in.  The afternoon is yours to do as you please.  With coffee shops and boutiques around every corner, Tromso is a place that can be enjoyed by all ages.  Tonight, is our first real chance of seeing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

Day 5: Chasing the lights (24/01/2018)

Depart from your hotel in a comfortable, climate controlled coach destined for the Husky centre. After a short introduction and a safety briefing, set out to explore the enchanting landscape by Husky sled.  After about 1.5 hours of riding, return to the farm where you will be spoiled with a hot drink and some cake in a lavvo tent, before returning to your hotel.

Toning you are going on a hunt for the magical Northern Lights.  Traverse into the countryside and even into Finland if necessary to find a nice, clear spot.  Once the best site is found, your guide will set up camp with a bonfire, where you can settle in, relax with homemade soup, and take some pictures.

The tours depart at 18:00 and last up to 7 hours, make sure you get enough sleep during the day!

Day 6: Tromso (25/01/2018)

Day at leisure to catch up on some sleep after the previous evening's fun.

Day 7: Svalbard (26/01/2018)

Depart for Svalbard.  Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel.  After check-in, you have the rest of the day free to explore on your own.

Day 8: Svalbard (27/01/2018)

Experience the true arctic treasures around Templefjorden.  Enjoy an exciting snowmobile drive and experience arctic wildlife such as seals, reindeer and polar bear.  The final stop of your tour will be at the majestic glacier front of Von Post in Templefjorden.  A nice, warm lunch will be served on your way back.

Day 9: Trappers dinner (28/01/2018)

After spending the day at leisure, you will be transported to Basecamp Trapper's Station, where you can see and feel how trappers lived in the wilderness hunting seals and reindeer.  Enjoy real arctic food while listening to stories about the lives of trappers around the archipelago.  Being out the city, there is a good chance of spotting the Northern Lights while enjoying your experience.

Day 10: Svalbard to Oslo (29/01/2018)

Today you leave the peaceful island behind and start making your way back home.  You will overnight in Oslo, and enjoy a lovely traditional Norwegian dinner.

Day 11: Oslo to OR Tambo (30/01/2018)

The last trip of your journey - Oslo, Zurich, OR Tambo, Arrive at OR Tambo on 31/01/2018.

 

Due to the current solar cycle, this is officially your best chance to see the Northern lights in the next decade or so.  Make a quick stop in Zurich and get those delectable chocolates, before setting off to Norway and Svalbard.  Husky sledge rides, snowmobile excursions, open fire dinners while chasing the lights and remote wilderness visits to increase your chances even more.
